How can I lose weight when I have PCOS?
Certain lifestyle changes given below helps you manage weight in PCOS –
1) Maintaining a normal body weight- obesity increases the insulin resistance hence worsening the PCOS condition. Maintain a normal weight decreases the insulin level and also normalizes the abnormal hormones in the blood.
2) Diet management- intake of low carbohydrates and fats maintains the level of insulin in the body. One must consume the fibrous food. Example – brown rice, wheat pasta, whole grain, cereal etc.
3) Stay active/exercise/workout- regular exercise maintains a normal weight and keeps the blood sugar levels in check.
For obesity use of takrasrishta, madhu along with yava, kulattha etc as diet modification is mentioned in obesity (atishtula) chapter in Charaka Samhita. Life style changes along with routine exercise plays a critical role in managing obesity.
