Can a HSG test clear blocked tubes?
HSG is a test that is used to diagnose any blockage in the uterus. The method includes flushing the fallopian tubes with medicated liquid. The dye used passes through the uterus and then the tubes. If the tubes are clear the dye drains into the abdominal cavity. The concept is same as in uttara basti where medicated liquid is inserted in the uterus. HSG may or may not clear the tubal blockage. But to a large extent it depends on the liquid used for flushing. According to the studies when oil based substance was used, 40% achieved pregnancy whereas while using water based substance 29% got pregnant. Thus we can conclude with the statement that HSG test where the tubes are flushed has a beneficial effect on fertility.
