First & Second Month
According to acharya Susruta food that is sweet,cold and in liquid form is helpful. Water chestnut is considered ‘garbhasthapan’ food. It stabilizes the fetus and fixes the placenta. Mother should drink a glass of cow milk mixed with cow ghee everyday.
Third Month
Rice and milk is recommended in meals for breakfast and lunch. It should be taken more frequently and in more quantity.
Fourth Month
In fourth month the heart starts functioning hence the heart of the featus needs pure kapha and rakta. It is advised to consume curd rice and ghee. The quantity of food intake should be more in breakfast and linch.
Fifth Month
The mind of the fetus becomes active. Rice and milk (cow milk) is suggested in Ayurveda. It is said to nourish the mind.
Sixth Month
During this month the baby develops the recollecting power and power of perception. Ayurveda recommends a proper amount of cow ghee with rice.
Seventh Month
During this month the formation of blood, bone etc takes place. The ayurvedic doctor suggests specific foods depending upon the individual’s body constitution.
General Diet For Pregnancy
Dr Chanchal Sharma at Aasha Ayurveda recommends certain yoga poses and wellness programs during pregnancy. A woman who is pregnant must include barley, wheat, maize, bajra, bangal gram, black gram, kidney beans, soya beans, potatoes, carrot,radish, beet root, garlic, ginger, turmeric, onion, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, drumstick, curry leaves, milk, ghee, curd, paneer, egg etc in her diet.
Fresh fruits such as banana, oranges, dates, pomegranate, figs, raisins, apricot,almond, mango, amla etc. Eating amla everyday is a blessing during pregnancy.
One must avoid mushrooms, tea, wines, soft drink and alcohol.
